Every person on the Earth

As tough as life may be

Should thank a mother for their birth

Just the same as we

So when my world is filled with strife

               I struggle endlessly

And feel so grateful for my life

And all you've done for me

Holy Trinity Episcopal Church

Austin, Texas

Spring 2001

Holy Trinity Episcopal Church was close to home and had been passed repeatedly, for years.  The rustic style and colorful setting of the captivating little church had always been remarkably striking.  The cut-stone structure was creatively situated on a hilltop providing a picturesque view of the downtown skyline.   In springtime, blankets of wildflowers spread over the churchyard and grassy hillside.  On an impromptu occasion during the spring of 1999, some wildflowers had been desired as a gift for a special friend.  The little church came to mind, and a small bouquet was collected from the flowers covering the hillside below the church.

Curiosity naturally existed about the denomination at the little church, but no signs appeared to be anywhere around.   Finally, in the spring of 2001, a very small and barely noticeable sign was spotted near the ground, at the driveway entrance.  The sign was unpainted and weathered with simply the word "Episcopal" burned into the wood.  The little sign elicited a tingling surge of excitement associated with a prior experience involving an Episcopalian church, about ten years earlier.  Therefore, spontaneous plans ensued to visit the alluring little church.

The experience of visiting Holy Trinity Episcopal Church was unprecedented.  Members called the church “renewed” Episcopalian.  The atmosphere was totally charismatic and included a blend of Episcopalian and Pentecostal traditions.  Visiting the church was a completely unique experience as well as a most favorable encounter surpassing all previous church involvements. The sanctuary was always filled to capacity and the congregation was growing rapidly.  Several months were spent attending the services.  A home-group was also attended for several weeks.

Sublimely underlying the motivation to attend Holy Trinity Episcopal Church was a lingering musical notion associated with the synchronistic phenomena that had led to involvement at Christ Episcopal Church in Temple, Texas, during the early 1990s, and a well rekindled interest in an old guitar emerged.  The guitar had usually remained in the closet after narrowly escaping an estate-liquidation sale before the relocation to Austin, early in 1997.  Fellow rock-climbers had dissuaded selling the guitar by saying that doing so would probably be regretful, farther down the road in life.  They were right.  Fortunately, their suggestions had been taken, and the bulky guitar had been lugged along on the uncertain and seemingly wayward path.  Subsequent to visiting to the little hilltop church in Austin, musical interests have been continuously sustained with disciplined enthusiasm.
